Start Procedures

Start times are available here.

The Middle Distance, Long Distance, and Sprint Championships will use the following procedures at the Start:

  • There will be two lines before the Start punch box. Clocks will show actual, real time.

  • Participants who are not able to start within 30 seconds of their assigned time (15 seconds for the Sprint) will be reassigned a later start time. This might be as much as an hour later.

  • You will be called to step over the first line two minutes before your start time.

  • At this point you will be checked off the start list. You must be wearing your bib number, clearly visible from the front.

  • You will be asked to read (and possibly show) your SI finger stick number to the volunteer.

  • Loose control descriptions will be available here (they are also printed on your map).

  • One minute before your start time you will be asked to step over the second line.

  • Pick up your map, but do not turn it over.

  • You may mark the back of your map with your name, etc.

  • You may ask the start volunteer to verify that you have the correct map (show them the front of the map, ask them which course it is). You are strongly encouraged to do this - it is your responsibility to get the correct map. Participants starting a wrong course will not be given a new start time.

  • When the start volunteer says "Go" (or blows a whistle), punch the Start punch box. Please allow Blue and Red course participants to punch first.

  • Turn over your map and follow the marked route to the Start triangle - this is indicated by a control marker without a punch box. This is the location marked on your map with a triangle.
